What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies and measurement choices
We use essential browser storage to remember your privacy choice and support features you request, such as recipe ratings, secure access and payment. You can browse recipes and buy an ebook without allowing optional Google measurement.
Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement are off until you choose Accept measurement. Choose Decline measurement to leave them off. This is one optional choice for website analytics and advertising measurement together. We remember your choice in this browser for up to 180 days.
You can change or withdraw your choice using Measurement preferences at the bottom of the page. Withdrawing consent clears the measurement cookies this website can remove and reloads the page to stop future Google measurement. It does not automatically erase information already sent to Google. Clearing your browser storage also removes your saved choice.
This choice controls our Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement. Embedded media and third-party services are described separately below.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Google Analytics and advertising measurement
With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use Bite My Kitchen and Google Ads conversion measurement to understand whether our ads lead to ebook purchases. These services may use cookies, browser or device identifiers, advertising click identifiers, page visits and browser or device information. Google also receives connection information, including your IP address, when your browser contacts its services. Measurement identifiers are not the same as fully anonymous information.
When a purchase is confirmed, our measurement events include a randomly generated internal order reference, the purchase value and the currency (NZD). Google Analytics also records which ebook edition was purchased. The order reference helps prevent the same purchase being counted twice; browser storage is also used for this purpose.
We do not send your name, email address, card details, Stripe checkout session identifier or private download link in these measurement events. We do not enable Google Signals, enhanced conversions or personalized advertising in this measurement setup. Some campaign identifiers in links are used to connect a visit or purchase to an advertisement.
If you have not allowed measurement, our Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement tags do not load or send measurement events. Your choice does not affect payment processing, delivery of your ebook, or the essential records needed to provide those services.
Read how Google uses information from websites that use its services and Google's Privacy Policy.
Payments and website services
Stripe processes ebook payments through its secure checkout. We keep the purchase email address, order and payment references, amount, currency, ebook edition, payment status and order date to provide your download and support your purchase. Payment card details are entered into Stripe's checkout.
Cloudflare provides website hosting, storage, security and contact-message delivery. These service providers process information needed for those services, which may include an IP address, email address or transaction information. Declining optional Google measurement does not prevent the processing needed to fulfil your order, respond to your message or protect the website.
Who we share your data with
Service Providers and others who help with our business operations and assist in the delivery of our products and services including, but not limited to, application development, site hosting, maintenance, data analysis, customer service, email delivery services, analytics, and enforcement of our Terms of Service Agreement and other agreements.
We do not sell, rent, or lease your Personal Data to a third party.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Your contact information
We may collect your email address, but only if you voluntarily provide it to us. This may occur, for example, if you sign up to receive an email newsletter. We will use your email address for the purposes for which you provided it to us, and also from time to time to send you emails regarding the Site or other products or services that we believe may be of interest to you. You may opt out of such email communications at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” button in the email.
Your email address may be processed by service providers to handle your purchase, deliver your contact message or respond to your request. It is not published with your comments or reviews, and we do not send it to Google Analytics or Google Ads.
How we protect your data
We use reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to protect personal data from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction, taking into account the nature of the Personal Data and risks involved in processing that information.
Links to other websites
Our website may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have used these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide whilst visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. You should exercise caution and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.
Childrens Information
The Website does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 16. If a parent or guardian believes that the Website has personally identifiable information of a child under the age of 16 in its database, please contact us immediately at hello@bitemykitchen.co and we will use our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or services change. The latest version and update date will appear on this page. Where a new use requires your consent, we will ask for it before that use begins.
Your choices
Reading this policy or continuing to browse the website does not give consent to optional Google measurement. You can accept or decline it, and change your choice at any time using Measurement preferences.
